Reflections on My Birthday Eve

It is 2:30 and the memorial service at Breckenridge is just beginning. I am at home, however, with two sick kids. Evan has a temperature of 102.5 and Mimi has a headache, stomache, and her tonsils "don't feel right." Too bad, I was hoping to get to that service. But I know that I'm right where Mom would want me to be. I've been thinking a lot about Mom--more than usual. I guess it's because I have a birthday looming. Who else would have an elective C-section on Halloween when there were three other kids at home? THAT'S OUR MOM! I have to believe Jean Conway took my big sisters trick-or-treating. Sorry, Dad! Does anyone remember? This is one of those firsts--the first birthday without Mom. I miss her and I love her and I'm so lucky she was mine!

  1. Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, Miz Ellie, Happy birthday to you. And many, many, many, many more. I never before thought about an elective C-section on Halloween. Guess she wanted a Halloween baby and you seem to love being a Halloween baby, so she chose well. In retrospect, what a wonderful gift she gave you all those years ago. Isn't it amazing how long it takes sometimes for things to be revealed. Have a great birthday, and I hope the kids are well enough to go trick or treating. Of course I don't remember who took us out that night. Wasn't that our first fall on Berkshire? Must have been Jean Conway, since we wouldn't have known many people. Judith??

  2. The more I think about it, the less likely Jean Conway seems. Markie Conway was born on October 13; I think in 1955 too. So...how could Mrs. Conway have helped with a new baby at home who had special needs? Maybe you guys didn't go trick-or-treating that year. Sorry sisters!

  3. I am awed. How could you possibly remember Markie Conway's birthday? I can't even remember my nieces' and nephews' birthdays. Guess I better get a Brain Gym, too, although I have taken up sudoku to try to get a little mental exercise. We'll see how it works. Bye! Off to the other Cape.
